The TULSA-PRO™ or Transurethral Ultrasound Ablation Procedure is a FDA-approved minimally invasive procedure that uses direction HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound energy to ablate (destroy) targeted prostate tissue. The TULSA-PRO™ system ablates prostate tissue from the “inside-out” meaning that it avoids direct contact with the rectum, urinary sphincter, and neurovascular bundles (NVBs) surrounding the prostate. Traditional methods of treating prostate cancer can lead to damage of surrounding structures such as the sphincter and NVB’s which has been known to result in erectile dysfunction or incontinence. By using the TULSA-PRO™’s “inside-out” method, Dr. Higgan avoids direct contact helping to preserve his patient’s functional abilities.
